From July 25 to July 30, Mud City Meltdown takes place in Moncton, NB. The festival showcases some incredible local talent, as well as some national and international acts that are certain to please the crowds. We are happy to be working alongside MCMD to showcase some of the talented bands and artists that will be performing! First up, we have Moncton based “nerdy girly dirt band”, The Galpines.
First off, care to introduce yourself to the Canadian Beats readers?
We’re The Galpines, an all-female comedy band from Moncton, NB. We’ve got Mandi Henderson on bass, Heather Narduzzi on ukulele, Amy Stone on guitar, and Abbey Warren on mandolin. We all share the vocals and harmonies.
Mud City Meltdown is back for its third year, how does it feel to be a part of this event?
We’re excited to play in our hometown alongside so many great artists! This will be our first MCMD performance and our first bilingual show (with Marc à Paul à Jos).
The lineup for Mud City Meltdown is loaded with so much Canadian talent, who are you most excited to check out at the festival?
Like A Motorcycle, Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire, The Squirts, Les Hay Babies
While you’re in Moncton, are there any “must see locations” that you hope to check out?
For anyone visiting our beautiful hometown, we recommend that you hit up Calactus Café for the best vegetarian food and Mary Brown’s for the most delicious fried chicken you’ve ever had. Pop in to the Laundromat on St. George for a drink and some salty cheese. If you want to do something besides eat and drink, apparently there’s some sort of magnetic hill or something?
Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?
We’ll be playing at the Evolve Festival on July 16th and Messtival on August 5th.
If someone has yet to see you live, how would you describe your live show?
Have you ever seen four grown women heckle babies… in harmony? Rowdy, raunchy, hilarious, and definitely NSFW.
When you head out on tour or in this case for festival season, what 3 things must you make sure you pack?
Wigs, glitter, and as many cases of Alpine Lager as we can shoplift from NB Liquor.
Here at Canadian Beats, we’re all about Canadian talent, who are some of your favourite Canadian bands/artists?
Sam Roberts Band, Lindi Ortega, Joni Mitchell, The Motorleague, Slowcoaster, Grand Theft Bus, Radio Radio, Chixdiggit, C’mon, Sarah Harmer, Alanis Morissette, Alysha Brilla, Matt Mays, Partner, Alvvays, Land of Talk
What’s up next for you?
After festival season is over, we’ll be working on our new album (tentatively titled “Sorry Mom”) and trying to stay out of the drunk tank.
