Today, May 17, 2017, Ryan Laird releases his latest single, “Gamble On Love”. In honour of that, we invited him to do a Five Questions With… with us. Here’s what he had to say.
Please introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Ryan Laird. A Canadian singer/songwriter and touring artist. I’ve been back and forth between Canada and Nashville for many years pursuing my country music dreams and love using my music as a platform to motivate other people to chase their dreams and ambitions too!
Please tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I like to write songs when I feel inspired about something that’s happened in my life. I sometimes take a walk, observe the world around me and can often witness something that sparks an idea. I love mixing in a wicked guitar groove, and sometimes, I’ll even just start jamming and build off that too. I have fun writing and performing music, and I love that I can make my audience feel the same way!
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I’m very excited and fortunate to be playing all over Canada in the fall. The official dates will be announced in the coming months so stay tuned! If you haven’t attended a Ryan Laird concert yet… you haven’t lived! (haha kidding!!). I try to keep my concerts fairly informal and relaxed. I usually chat with the crowd and try to get all of us to know each other a bit more than we did before the show. I do my best to make sure everyone has a good time, and usually that starts with me having lots of fun picking my guitar and rocking out on stage!
Apart from my own shows, there’s also a special cause that I have been lucky enough to be part of for the past 4 years. For anyone who hasn’t heard about the Bigger Than That tour, it’s a very awesome, and powerful youth empowerment program that has visited over 400 schools to date, and impacted over 250,000 youth. By personally getting to go to these schools, and meeting these kids, I get to teach them through the medium of music that it’s ok to be unique and different, and when you have goals, you’ve just gotta go for it, no matter what anyone else tells you. It’s what you think of yourself that counts the most. To learn more about the program, please visit www.BiggerThanThat.org.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
“Gamble On Love” – that’s my brand new single! If you’re looking for a new cruising song for your playlist, this is it. I’m real stoked about it and I want the whole world to hear it! It’s available on iTunes, and Spotify!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
I’m going to give you a throwback and go with Bryan Adams, and Gordon Lightfoot. Both amazing songwriters with totally magical stories to tell.
A big thank you to Canadian Beats for supporting Canadian talent! We will definitely have a lot more stories coming!
Thank you, Ryan! As a special treat, you can listen to “Gamble On Love” here! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Hello everyone! My name is Linda and I have been a fan of Canadian Music for as long as I can remember. That counts for way too many decades than I want to admit to! I have three primary passions in my life, music, photography and writing. When I can combine them all, I feel I am right where I should be. Though I can appreciate all genres of music, my particular favourite is Country. Canadian Country is moving in leaps and bounds. I love how it is progressing and I’m thankful that I can be a small part of it.
