Who: The Rathburns & Beautiful Nothing
When: Thursday, March 30, 2017
Where: The Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto, ON
Beautiful Nothing hosted their album release party for Sleep Walk. They shared the stage with The Rathburns, 20 Amp and the Good Goddamns.
The first time I saw The Rathburns play, I wasn’t even there to shoot them; I was there to shoot the band they were opening for. Yet they left a lasting impression on me. Since that first time, I’ve gone to see them every opportunity I’ve had. Their sound is aggressive yet very accessible. At the risk of sounding clichéd, they sound like rock and roll should sound. Take a tube amp, drive it until it breaks up real nice. Back it up with competent and driving bass and drum beats so no one has any excuse not to dance/head bang. And finally, top it all off with a vocalist who can hit every note on every harmony, yet powerful enough to get everyone’s attention at the back of the room. Put all this on stage and you’ve got The Rathburns. Can’t wait to see them again. With or without my camera.
