Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey there! My name is Julia Carlucci and I’m a Pop/Soul artist from Toronto.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

My sound is a mix of influences from classic R&B to contemporary Pop music. I’ve been influenced by a ton of different artists but my biggest influences have been Adele, Alicia Keys, and Beyoncé. I really love Pop music and always have. When I write, I try to find those catchy pop hooks while still remaining a storyteller of my own personal experiences.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Currently in the process of booking shows! Possibly doing a big one this summer (anywhere from 12-14 piece band). I’d say my live performance is energetic, passionate, and honest. I want people to truly enjoy themselves at my shows. I love to make people laugh so I’m usually making stupid jokes on stage in between songs, haha! They’re probably not even that funny, but I’m going to keep pretending that they are J

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Definitely my new single “Take Me Down”. I feel it represents where I’m at right now artistically and where I want my sound to go moving forward.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Ah, there’s so many incredible talents coming out of Canada right now! A few that I love from Toronto are Jessie Reyez, JungleManSam, Adria Kain and Daniel Caesar. Within those four artists is a mix of several different genres including: singer/songwriter, R&B, Pop, Reggae, and Hip-Hop. That’s what I love about Canada – there’s such a diversity of people from all over the world and that diversity is reflected in the artists. On a more international scale, I love Alessia Cara and Shawn Mendes. They’re both great singers who write amazing pop music.
