The Foxx Lounge Rock Bar & Hotdoggery is a funky, intimate venue in downtown Barrie, ON that is prospering thanks to its warm and inviting atmosphere, amazing gourmet hotdogs, board games and old fashioned movies projected on the wall. The venue seems to always draw the crowds for shows, whether it be for open jam, stand-up comedy, paid cover rock/punk shows or for their newest feature, Social Saturdays, which features amazing local indie talent and no cover! As a fellow musician himself, bar owner Shane Heath, recognizes the value of providing bands with this unique opportunity as it will undoubtedly gain them exposure from bar patrons who may not have come otherwise. In a society where the reality is that less and less people are taking in live shows in favour of house parties, etc, its nice to see venue owners thinking outside of the box to ensure that the local indie scene stays alive and prospers and doesn’t see the continuous train of venues closing, like Toronto is currently experiencing.
Recently, local band, Monday Matinee invited along with them Oshawa-based Blamethrower, to entertain the crowds for one of the first Social Saturdays, and they packed the house with a line-up of people waiting to get in all night long. Both bands brought their party rock games and rocked the stage all night long. Canadian Beats contributor, Nicole Wolfe, was there to catch the action.

I’m Nicole, a biology teacher by day, but my life revolves around music. I’m that girl that you will always find with the concert t-shirt on and ear buds in. It is rare that you find me without some type of music playing in the background. I connect all of my life experiences to music. It truly has its own language in my heart. There is nothing more exciting than taking in all that a concert has to offer. I love to support local Canadian acts and attend as many shows that I can.
