5 Album Covers That We LOVE! (It’s not just inside that counts…)

We’ve all been there… perusing the shelves of a record store, not quite sure what you are looking for.  Then, out of the corner of your eye, something catches your attention.  You are drawn to the beauty of an album cover.  As you carefully pick it up to inspect it, your eyes study the colours, lines, and shapes and before you even glance at the artist you’ve been convinced that you will love it’s contents!  Music is rarely just about music.  It is a full-body experience that marries many art forms together, including the visual arts.  People remember iconic albums not only because of the great music within, but by their unforgettable covers.  We have scoured the many recent albums that have been put out by Canadian artists and found five fabulous covers that have the potential to become ionic covers well into the future!

A silhouette of the man himself, among a pop of colour and muddied lines makes for a cover that we instantly spot on our shelves!  Beautiful Freakshow (Open Road Recordings) is the sixth studio album for Brody and was released on October 21st, 2016.

This Andy Warhol-inspired cover puts its money where it’s mouth is when it comes to tying together album art with its name!  The boys of Paper Lions look vibrant with their war paint.  Full Colour is an independent release that came out September 16, 2016.

Rendering, by Plain As Ghosts was a popular choice among our Canadian Beats team.  We love the graphic simplicity  of the single, dimly lit lightbulb.  Rendering was released independently on May 27, 2016.

Sate’s side profile, with her characteristic mohawk, is displayed in bright, primary colours on this sophomore album for the Toronto-based singer-songwriter.  RedBlack&Blue was easily a favourite among our team because we adore how the cover so accurately displays her fiery personality!  This album was released on June 10, 2016 by CLK Creative Works.
