Their names may be unusual but their sound is purely country. Bucko & Toad are a husband and wife country-pop duo hailing from Vancouver, BC. Kenn and Kelly Coutou – a.k.a. Bucko & Toad – decided to kick off 2017 right with their brand new single “Country Strong” via 604 Records. Available to radio starting yesterday and to digital platforms tomorrow (Jan 6, 2017), the song was proudly produced by Tavish Crowe.
“After we released ‘Any excuse’ I had a horrible accident where I cut my hand and I didn’t know if I was ever going to be able to play a guitar again.” shares Kenn. “Kelly and I sat around writing to this track Tavish sent and this is the first song we all wrote after the accident. We called it ‘Country Strong’ because it’s a song about picking yourself back up and carrying on even if you don’t know what the future holds. Sometimes what you need to do is grab that shovel or determination, and dig deep within yourself.”
This couple is determined to create their own sound, taking an upbeat and fresh approach to today’s country music. This Canadian duo, who chose to use their childhood nicknames as their monikers, decided to take a musical adventure together into unknown lands. Joining the 604 Records family – which includes Canadian greats like Dallas Smith, Marianas Trench and Carly Rae Jepsen – in late 2015, they’re all about bringing their own uniqueness to the game when it comes to creating original music.
They recently shot the video for “Country Strong” with award winning director Stephano Barberis. They chose different rural locations, creating an almost magical environment within foggy forests and country terrain. The video is expected to premiere later in January.

My name is Taryn and I am a writer and music enthusiast from Mississauga, Ontario. I am a graduate of Journalism/Media studies from the University of Guelph-Humber, and while I’m currently pursuing other career options, writing is still one of my greatest passions. And combining that passion with my deep love of music was an obviously easy choice. I’ve been writing with Canadian Beats for awhile now and I’ve loved every moment. When I’m not working or writing for CB, you can usually find me in the kitchen baking, writing, at a concert or travelling to new (and old) places with my favourite people!
