The Levee’s Battle of the Bands 2017

The Levee (in St. John’s, NL) are gearing up for their annual Battle of the Bands, which officially starts on January 19th. Gene Browne, Mike Gear and Mike McDonald started up this tradition at Turners Tavern 10 years ago and carried it over to The Levee, having only missed a few years since.

Night one is January 19th and runs each Thursday until February 23rd, with the finals on Friday, March 3rd. Each band is required to play 30 minutes of original music. Scores are determined by a combination of scores from attendees and judges. There is a $10 cover charge each night, which will give you one vote towards your favourite performer, doors are at 8pm and it is a 19+ event. This years judges include Gene Browne (The Levee), Georgie Newman (GNAudio) and Rock Island Magazine. The lucky winner will go home with 40 hours of recording with GNAudio, ZOOM HD Video/Audio Recorder, 100 CD’s pressed, and a MusicNL membership.

Past winners include Newspaper Fashion Show, Sandy Stokes & The Luck, Steve Vincent and Make Mean Everything. In a partnership with Big Rock Productions, they gave away $5000 to The Combine, ToShredsYouSay, Uneeda and Devastator.
