Alexis Normand of Saskatoon, SK and Ariane Mahrÿke Lemire of Edmonton, AB are both multi-award winning Francophone singer-songwriters. Normand and Lemire are each set to release brand new albums. To mark the celebration of their new albums and new music, the two are embarking on a nine-show tour together across Western Canada this month. Normand and Lemire have creatively chosen to call it the We Ain’t Cowgirls! Tour. “Venture out of your homes, your corrals, your saloons, and hear two shows for the price of one – a two-step unlike any you’ve ever seen!” Normand and Lemire both worked with highly regarded production teams to produce the “best work they’ve ever done” both in the studio and in preparation to perform their live shows.
Normand is currently set to release her self-titled sophomore album. Available for pre-order on October 21st, Normand’s album was produced by Marc Pérusse and contains 11 jazz inspired folk songs that feature the vocalists’ soft, warm, and inviting voice. “I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with some of Montréal’s crème de la crème on this record – lyricist Daniel Beaumont and producer/mentor Marc Pérusse. And singing a duet with my idol, Manitoba-born singer-songwriter Daniel Lavoie, was a dream come true.” In order to fully create a memorable, and fresh new show to take out on the road Normand spent weeks preparing in Montreal. Collaborating and rehearsing with artistic director Gaële, Normand ensured she was prepared to deliver her best live shows possible. While on tour Normand (piano, acoustic guitar, ukulele, vocals) will be accompanied by the multi-instrumentalist Marc Papillon (Eli & Papillon.) Upon completion of the tour, Normand will continue her album release tour into Québec in November and into 2017.
Lemire has created a musical sound which is an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, blues, and electroacoustic. Lemire effortlessly transitions between French to English without missing a beat. Lemire offers up dynamic performances and takes her listeners through expansive musical journeys sewn together by witty banter. Lemire will be offering Western Canadian audiences a sneak preview of her 2017 release, Je deviens le loup, which translates into “I become the wolf.” Lemire is excited to share this album with audiences and fans because it represents rediscovery and transition of self as she has spent the last four years on hiatus, rebuilding and rediscovering life while recovering from two roll-over car accidents. Je deviens le loup was co-produced by Don Benedictson and Marc Pérusse. The album features the talents of Joey Landreth (The Bros Landreth), Murray Pulver (Crash Test Dummies), Ben Morrier (Chic Gamine), Andrea Lindsay, and Saskatchewan’s own Anique Granger. Advance copies of Je deviens le loup will be available to purchase at the live shows only. Jon Lagore will accompany Lemire on guitar while on tour.

Music has touched my soul since day one. Whether it is performing or sitting down with some of the biggest names in music, I can always be found sharing my profoundly tender affection of music with anyone who will listen. Being a music journalist has allowed me to expand my knowledge of music and interact with some of my biggest childhood heroes. From days of radio broadcasting to sitting back, kicking off my cowboy boots and sharing my adventures with likeminded music fans online has been nothing short of amazing. Canada is full of true musical talent and I look forward to continuing to share my adventures in music with you.
