Toronto, ON based, STACEY has released a video for her rendition of “Build Me Up Buttercup”, which was made from 5 rolls of super8 film at Toronto’s Darling Mansion. The video was directed, shot and edited by Laura-Lynn Petrick.
When GoldFlakePaint asked why she decided to cover the track, her response was:
“I love a lot of music from the 60s and Build Me Up (Buttercup) is an obvious classic from that era. The transformation that the song took really caught me off guard. It’s now clear to me that the original lyrics & chord structure exist as such a stark dichotomy. The happy, fun chords expertly mask the sombre message; it’s the song everyone gets up to dance & sing along to in celebration, even (ironically) at weddings. I had never considered it from this perspective before.”
