New video released by Arkells

Hamilton, ON based band, Arkells have released a brand new video for their song, “Drake’s Dad”. The song is off of their highly anticipated upcoming album, Morning Report which is set to be released on August 5, 2015. The song is one of my favourites on the album, it’s highly catchy and if you’re like me, you won’t be able to stop yourself from singing along.

The coolest part of this song is that it actually features Drake’s dad, Dennis Graham, and is inspired by the true story of how the band met Drake’s dad, find out what Max Kerman has to say about the origins of the song:

“Last summer I was on a road trip with my best friends through the American south, and in the magic of the night, we happened to meet Drake’s dad – Dennis Graham – in a Memphis bar. He couldn’t have been more gracious, especially given that there were 16 of us, drunk on friendship and cheap American beer. This chance encounter inspired this song.

The narrative carries on to Nashville for some more shenanigans, and finishes with us all crawling back into bed back home in Hamilton, very tired and missing our girls.

I love writing about the joy of friendship, and the lighthouse that home can be while you’re out lost at sea. “Drake’s Dad” is Elton John meets Kanye West. Southern groove, classic piano changes, 808s, and a gospel choir.”

Stay tuned to Canadian Beats for my review of Morning Report coming on August 5, and also be sure to check out the video interview that Canadian Beats contributor, Cassandra Popescu conducted at Wayhome Music & Arts Festival, here!
