Artist: Yes We Mystic
Genre: Orchestral rock
Venue: The Drake Underground, Toronto
When: June 19, 2016
Winnipeg based orchestral rock group Yes We Mystic hit the Drake Underground in Toronto while on their cross Canada tour to close off NXNE. Fresh off the release of their latest album, Forgiver the band played a number of moving, skillfully crafted tunes at the Drake to end NXNE on a high note. Longing melodies, rich textures, and progressive themes characterized Yes We Mystic’s set as every musical layer effortlessly intertwined together.
“Ceilings”, a single from Forgiver stood out live due to it’s subtle progression into the exploration of darker themes. A minimalistic intro persists through the song as more themes are added. Marked accents, delayed beats, eerie synth and soft vocals build off of each other to add a hint of tension and dissonance. As performers the band is captivating on stage, playing with authenticity and passion. If you can, check out the band as they come to the end of their national tour and be sure to take a listen to Forgiver!

I’ve been involved in music my whole life and have developed a passion for helping out or working in the industry any way I can. I’m interested in helping talented artists gain the recognition they deserve in this crazy business. I am currently studying Communication Studies at York University in Toronto, and working at a local theatre doing marketing and communications, as well as helping out a local festival called Rock the Coliseum. Indie, alt-rock/pop, and metal are my favourites but I’m open to all music genres! If I’m not at a show, I’m doing yoga, grabbing coffee, or looking for some craft beer.
