We hope you’re enjoying our Countdown to Cavendish Beach Music Fest interview series as much as we are enjoying presenting it. We started with Newfoundland based, Jason Benoit, then onto Manitoba duo, Petric and British Columbia’s own Jojo Mason. Next in our series is none other than The Road Hammers. We had a chance to ask Jason McCoy a series of questions surrounding CMBF and more, read below to find out what he had to say.
First off, care to introduce yourselves to the Canadian Beats readers?
My name is Jason McCoy, 2 time CCMA Male Artist of the Year, creator of the Road Hammers, Husband to a beautiful wife, and Father to 2 beautiful kids!
Cavendish Beach Music Festival is one of Canada’s strictly Country festivals, and it’s one of the biggest out there, how does it feel to be a part of it?
I love playing any size of venue, but there’s something about a festival that brings together the best of all venues, people of all ages, all walks of life, but all country music fans and anything that happens on the East Coast, is AWESOME!
Have you taken part in CBMF in the past? If so, what is your favourite memory?
We played CBMF a couple of years ago. I love the music, the fans, the crew, but my favourite part is hanging out in Cavendish itself, it’s like ‘life done right.’ Hmmm, perhaps we need to open a recording studio there!
You are in a line-up of extremely talented Country artists, who are you most excited to check out at the festival?
This will be the best year yet, what a range of music, from the Great Ricky Skaggs, to the new music of Cold Creek County, I’m pumped about it all. Old Dominion will be a must see. They are great live and very cool guys. Blake Shelton is always a fun show too!
Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?
I’m excited to be hosting Boots and Hearts in Ontario, it’s close to home for me and the folks are always awesome! (Just like PEI!)
Describe your live show using only 5 words, and GO!
Crazy, Loud, Fun, Addictive! (ya, 4 is good)
If you were asked to give a rising country artist some advice, what would that advice be?
Be the best you possible, ain’t nobody can do what ‘you’ were born to do, so do it all the way!! Soak it in, enjoy every moment, and don’t leave a single regret.
What’s up next for you?
We’re working on a new Road Hammer album. We hope to have some new music for everyone very soon. I’ve also been approached to work on some new Jason McCoy music, so I’m currently writing toward that…always something fun!
I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started many years ago. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
