Are you one of the many country fans counting down the days to Cavendish Beach Music Festival? If you are, you’re not alone and we are counting down with you here at Canadian Beats in the form of interviews with some of the talented Canadian country artists that will be taking part in CBMF this year. We started things off on Monday with Jason Benoit, then we moved on to Petric, and today we’re happy to introduce you all to Vancouver BC based Jojo Mason. Find out what he has to say about the festival and more!
First off, care to introduce yourselves to the Canadian Beats readers?
Heyo Canadian Beat readers, I’m JoJo Mason!
Cavendish Beach Music Festival is one of Canada’s strictly Country festivals, and it’s one of the biggest out there, how does it feel to be a part of it?
You know the feeling when things that you dream about finally become a reality? Part of you is sitting there scratching your head wondering how it happened and the other part is being proud of what you’ve managed to accomplish? That kind of sums it up.
Have you taken part in CBMF in the past? If so, what is your favourite memory from previous years? If you haven’t taken part in CBMF in the past, what are you most looking forward to for this year?
No! I have not had the privilege of playing CBMF before! I’m the most excited to be able to visit a province I’ve never been to and make a ton of new friends! I’m also excited because there’s a possibility I may run into Blake Shelton and I need to know if he’s as cool as I think he is!
You are in a line-up of extremely talented Country artists, who are you most excited to check at the festival?
To be 100% honest, if it were up to me, I would just stand in the audience for 3 days straight and take all of them in. There is SO much amazing talent and any chance I get I’ll be watching. It doesn’t matter who I see, I know I couldn’t be disappointed but seeing Kenny Chesney would be pretty awesome!
Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?
I’m so excited about all of my gigs this summer. I get the opportunity to play at the Calgary Stampede, Merritt Rockin’ River Fest, Boots and Hearts, Dauphin Country Fest and Lucknow! Going to be a super fly summer for real!!!!
Describe your live show using only 5 words, and GO!
Soulful, Genuine, Fun, Energetic, Fire.
If you were asked to give a rising country artist some advice, what would that advice be?
Believe. Believe in yourself. Believe in what you’re doing. Believe in your abilities and your work ethic. Surround yourself with people that believe in you. And believe in the process. Be the best version of yourself and good things will happen.
What’s up next for you?
My team and I have been working hard in the studio and there may have been talks of an album coming at the end of summer!
