Show Review – Dylan Menzie at CMW Rooftop Hangout

When: Thursday, May 5, 2016
Venue: The Porch
Where: Toronto, ON

Canadian Music Week has transformed the already bustling city into a musical wonderland. Walking in the heart of downtown Toronto, you didn’t even need to know where the Porch was located. All you had to do was follow the music to the Porch where AB Co and The Planetary Group hosted a CMW rooftop hangout featuring Prateek Kuhad, the Fontaines and small town PEI’s very own Dylan Menzie.

The Porch makes an ideal venue to check out some new talented artists during an afternoon hangout. The patio baked in the sun and the CN Tower stood tall as the perfect backdrop to the stage.

Although I agree with the comparison to his fellow East Coaster Joel Plaskett, Menzie’s sound and vocals are strikingly reminiscent of Paul Simon. He played a number of tunes from his old and upcoming album. Accompanied by drums and bass, the trio played an enticingly charming set.  Menzie even took on the task of covering neo-psychedelic band Tame Impala’s “Disciples”. It was an unexpected but surprisingly fitting choice.

Dylan Menzie will be touring during the remainder of May throughout the Eastern provinces. Visit his websites for details as he is not to be missed.
