Calgary, AB based band, The New Electric are no strangers to Canadian Beats, and we are definitely okay with that. They released their new single, “Inside Out” to radio across Canada recently and if I do say so myself, it’s highly addictive, as was there first single, “Life’s What You Make It”. I had the chance to ask them a series of questions based around they’re new single, and much more!
How have you guys been since the last time we chatted?
We’ve been a bit of everything really! Busy, crazy, up, down, good, bad, but truly grateful and happy for all of it.
Your first single, “Life Is What You Make It” was definitely a hit; did you expect that sort of response from the song?
We never expect anything. We plan and work and work and work and then work! We are so lucky and appreciative for the success of “Life’s What You Make It.” Predicting hits is a hard business but I guess you could say that we saw a great initial reaction from our fans and that may have given us some clues?
What was the highlight of the video shoot for “Life Is What You Make It”?
That was such a fun video it would be hard to pick one specific moment, so here’s three: Indy in a onesie, jumping into Lake Ontario in the freezing cold! Hahaha! I’ll never forget it. Adam getting the unicorn emoji tattooed! Hahaha, amazing. The third and maybe most highlighted was the idea of having our fans direct it. That made it very special.
You worked with Ben Knechtel on the video, what was that experience like?
Ben was great! He had wonderful ideas and knew how to get the shots right. He’s also a super fun dude to be around.
You have been keeping busy, just released your second single, “Inside Out”, how has the response been so far?
The response has been absolutely overwhelming! Spotify is all over it. The radio loves it and the fans love it! What is going on!? Hahaha. Can you tell we’re excited?
Can fans expect a video for this single?
They absolutely can. We made something so fun for this song. We can’t wait to get it out there and show you guys. We had UK Academy award winning actor/director, Stuart Brennan, direct and act in this video and it turned out so unique and delightful.
When can we expect a full album to be released by The New Electric?
Late summer/fall of this year; we’ll be releasing our first EP!
You performed at JUNOfest on April 2, how did that feel?
It felt great! We were rocking a new set list in a great sounding venue for tons of fans, friends and family in our hometown at JUNOfest! It was a first for us as well and we love those.
Do you have any festivals lined up for the summer months?
Ya! Not many that we can announce yet but our festival schedule is looking awesome. Those are such fun gigs. The outdoors, summer, a big stage and sound and people having fun.
When can fans expect a tour?
We’ll be out and about all through the summer and fall this year.
If someone has yet to see you live, what can be expected from your live shows?
Fun songs, a ton of energy and a dynamic performance. They can expect to sing along, and maybe even get pulled up on stage!
If you had to describe your sound in 3 words, what words would you choose? Why?
Love, Core, Flow.
Love, because we’re about human connectivity and we promote love and equality. Core, because we’re doing what we are rather than being what we do. Flow, because our songs and parts are all manifestations of our higher selves expressing our passion.
What’s next for The New Electric?
We’re releasing our new video for “Inside Out”. We’re booking up tour and festival dates and getting ready to release the EP! We’ll be back in the studio this winter to track some brand new material.
Here at Canadian Beats, we like to include a portion of questions that may help your fans learn something new about you, so here goes:
What is your current go-to song?
Whatever is on Top 40 radio. My favs are “Same Old Love” and “Sorry.”
If you could write a song for any existing television show, which would you choose?
I’d love to write for Suits. I love that show!
What is your favourite festival to attend as a fan?
I honestly haven’t been to a ton of festivals but the Stampede in Calgary is always fun. I love watching bands at the Coke stage.
What is one thing that your fans would be surprised to learn about you?
Hmmm… They would be surprised that I’m a bit of a gamer! I love Zelda lol!
Twitter, Facebook or Instagram? Why?
They all have different things that they are good for but my fav is Instagram. I think because I like the app icon the best hahaha!
Last but not least, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Of course there is! We love you guys, every single one of you and we couldn’t do any of this without you. Thank you for your dedication and support with “Life’s What You Make It” let’s rock “Inside Out” together! Be great to each other!
