Tonight marks the beginning of JUNOfest and we couldn’t be more excited. The awards are taking place in Calgary, AB on April 3, 2016 and our writer, Heather Young will be there throughout the events of the week covering, so be sure to keep an eye out for her coverage on our social media sites, as well as the main website.
Throughout the past week, we have done countdown interviews with some of the artists involved this year, whether they are nominated or performing at JUNOfest, and today we have Vancouver, BC based trio, The Katherines. They will be performing on April 1 at The Nite Owl, and have given us a few hints as to what to expect from their performance, I’m sure it’s gonna be great! Get more information HERE! Find out what the band had to say about JUNOfest and much more!
First off, care to introduce yourself?
We’re The Katherines –3 peas, 1 pod.
Where were you when you found out you were part of JunoFest?
We we’re actually in make-up for our album cover shoot and our project manager Kesi came in and told us. We had to delay our freaking out because you have to sit very still when you’re getting your make-up done.
What can you tell us about your upcoming performance at JunoFest?
We’re playing at Nite Owl on Friday April 1st at 9pm.
We’re going to genre jump. Rock out at times and get a little darker too. We’re playing with a new band set-up so we’re stoked about that. Kate is also going to pull out her violin at some point. All in all we hope it’ll be diverse and entertaining.
What are you most looking forward to at the 2016 Juno awards festivities?
Definitely hanging out with other musicians and getting to see a bunch of shows. You always make new friends at music festivals like this one. We’re also stoked to meet Calgary TV and radio people for the first time.
Is there a specific performer you are anxious to see?
We’re stoked to see our fellow Vancouverites, Lovecoast and label mates Marianas Trench.
If you could give one up & coming Canadian band a piece of advice, what would it be?
Take every opportunity that comes, every contest, mentorship, jam session, etc. You never know where your next door is going to open up.
What’s up next for you?
We’re working on finishing up the album and getting ready to release it. We’re going to put out a new single soon that is a completely new style from what you’ve seen from us so far and we’re really excited about that.
Last but not least, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Our favourite moment this year was having you guys sing along to “Cherry Lips” with us at one of our shows. So thank you for giving us that memory. We’re stoked to start travelling and playing across Canada. Can’t wait to make new memories with you guys <3
