Countdown to Junos 2016 – Interview with Son of Ray

Time is winding down to the events of Junos 2016. Canadian Beats will be attending the Juno Awards this year and we’re excited. The awards are taking place in Calgary, AB on April 3, 2016 and our writer, Heather Young will be there throughout the events of the week covering, so be sure to keep an eye out for her coverage on our social media sites, as well as the main website.

We’ve decided to do a countdown of interviews with some of the artists involved this year, whether they are nominated or performing at JUNOfest, and today we have Calgary, AB based band, Son of Ray. They will be performing on April 1 at The Nite Owl and you don’t want to miss it! Get more information HERE! Find out what Rob Lagace had to say about JUNOfest and much more!

First off, care to introduce yourself?

My name is Rob Lagace, I am the singer/songwriter and bandleader of SON OF RAY.

Where were you when you found out you were part of JunoFest?

I was hanging out at home.

What can you tell us about your upcoming performance at JunoFest?

We’ll be rocking the Nite Owl at 11:00 pm on Friday August 1st with Shred Kelly, The Heirlooms, and The Katherines.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2016 Juno awards festivities?

THE MUSIC! Pretty exciting to have so many killer shows happening around the city.  Really looking forward to being a part of the energy that will be buzzing around the streets and in the venues.

Is there a specific performer you are anxious to see?

I can’t say that there is one in particular. There are so many great bands in the city over the weekend that I’m just planning on checking out as many as I can.

If you could give one up & coming Canadian band a piece of advice, what would it be?

Do it because you love it. Any other reason is a waste of time.

What’s up next for you?

Well the band has been in the studio working on songs for our upcoming album. We hope to have the album finished and released by late spring. We’ve also started lining up some shows around town and out on the road in support of the new album over the summer months.

Aside from working on the album, we have some sweet gigs coming up in April at The Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary. I’m also really looking forward to heading back to my old hometown of Port Colborne, ON, in May to open up for one of my favorite Canadian bands, The Great Lake Swimmers.

Last but not least, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?

Thank you to everyone that continues to support us, shares our music, and comes out to our shows. We hope you love it as much as we do. Check out our website at and let’s stay connected. Peace and Love friends.
