Two and a half years after his first visit, Tyler Shaw returned to Newfoundland for a 4 date tour starting in Grand Falls-Windsor then moving through St. John’s, Clarenville and Corner Brook. Since the last time he toured the province with Karl Wolf, My Name Is Kay and locals RocketRocketShip, Tyler released his debut album, Yesterday, so he had tons of new material to showcase for the intimate crowd that gathered.
I lucked into winning a VIP upgrade where we were treated with a meet and greet and Tyler played two songs acoustically, Dizzy and House of Cards. It’s always a relief when you meet artists and they are really down to earth people. Tyler is definitely a person who is super easy to get along with, joking with us and treating us like he’s known us for years.
Shortly after the meet and greet ended, doors opened to the public. Unfortunately the turn out wasn’t great but sometimes these little intimate shows can be a lot of fun. There was no opening act which confused me a little bit but that also meant not having to wait around to see the main act. He played almost all, if not the entirety, of Yesterday, including past singles Kiss Goodnight and It Happens. He even covered Stacy’s Mom by Fountains of Wayne, I Don’t Wanna Be by Gavin DeGraw and played a solo keyboard rendition of Justin Bieber’s What Do You Mean.

I’m Tara and I’m a graphic designer from Newfoundland. I am very fortunate to live in a city where there is a ton of amazing musicians. I’ve grown very fond of the local music scene in St. John’s and some of my favorite bands are ones I’ve met through going to local shows.
