Calgary, Alberta is home to one of Canada’s favourite country singers, Bobby Wills. He was nominated for the 2015 CCMA Songwriter of the Year and recently released his latest single, “Won’t You Be Mine “, off of his upcoming album which is due to be released in early 2016. We had the chance to ask Bobby a few questions about the single, upcoming album and catch up with him since we talked to him last earlier this year with Jess Moskaluke and Chad Brownlee. Be sure to grab the single on iTunes and follow Bobby online for anything he’s up to leading up to the release of the album.
You recently released your new single, “Won’t You Be Mine”. What was the fan reaction like?
We started playing this song live over the summer and the response was overwhelming! Often new songs don’t go over as well before they have become familiar until after radio etc. In this case the crowds were singing along with us word for word by the second chorus. It was pretty cool, and made the decision to make it a single really easy!
Is the song a good indication of what we can expect from the album?
Yes and no. We like to keep the listener on their toes by incorporating some different sounds and grooves. It’s definitely in line with the rest of the songs, but there are some surprises there for sure!
Can you tell us anything about the album?
As an artist I want to try to avoid repeating myself, so it forces us (my team and I) to stretch into new areas. That’s true of the lead off single “Won’t You Be Mine” and throughout the new music. It’s definitely the most fun I have ever had making music.
Are there going to be any more singles or videos for this album?
There will be at least 2 more!
Where did you get some of the inspirations for the songs on the album?
It’s been a crazy few years, filled with a lot of new experiences. This album was about having fun, and not taking ourselves too seriously this time around.
How would you compare your previous album to this one?
I think the consistent thing is that they both include songs I am passionate about and reflect my experiences and opinions. This project is just a little more on the sunny side of the street.
What have you been up to since we spoke last shortly before the Lights Go Down tour?
We went pretty much coast to coast again this summer playing shows, and we worked hard all year promoting Crazy Enough to the US market as an introduction of sorts. It has been a very fun, busy year!
How did it feel being nominated for Songwriter of the Year at the 2015 CCMA Awards?
It was a very special nomination. It is always an amazing feeling to be nominated by your peers, but this nom included my co-writers Walt Aldridge and Michael Pyle. I would not have a career if not for them, so it was pretty special to share this with them.
What’s coming up next for you?
Working on our spring and summer tour plans now, so look for those details soon!!
Here at Canadian Beats we like to ask a few questions so your fans can get to know you a bit better:
What was the first concert you went to?
My first concert was Bryan Adams.
If you were in charge of a weekend long music festival, what would the line up look like?
Hmmm… tough one
It would definitely include Zack Brown, Cam, The Band Perry, Garth Brooks, Dean Brody, the Small Town Pistols, and my MDM crew of course, to name just a few…
What’s your favourite song to play live?
Right now it’s the new single “Won’t You Be Mine”. It is impossible not to dance and sing along!!
Are there any Canadian artists/bands that you would recommend to your fans?
There are tons of them. I am a big Dean Brody fan, Small Town Pistols are awesome, and I really dig newcomer Jason Benoit’s sound. And having travelled coast to coast with Jess Moskaluke and Chad Brownlee, I have seen first hand just how talented these two are, and loved watching them in action!
What do you think the most played song on your iPod is?
“Let It Go”…. Thanks to my 6 year old.
And finally, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Thank you for believing in what we do!! We can’t wait to get back out and play for you all!

I’m a Toronto girl born and raised but have been living in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick since 2010. Music and writing are my two passions, so what better place for me to be than a writer with Canadian Beats? I have been writing for the blog since May of 2013 and have had so many great experiences because of it. I listen to almost every kind of music but my favourites are pop rock, rock, indie, folk, and any other combinations of them. Concerts are definitely my favourite place to be, especially when you’re right against the barricade and can feel the energy from the band and the crowd, everyone singing the same lyrics and moving to the music. I also have a college degree in Business Administration and hope to one day be able to publish a novel.
