Hot X Proxy are a 4 piece group from St. John’s, NL who have only been together for just over a year. I was at the first Hot X Proxy show in July 2014 and I knew they were going to be a band that people would be keeping their eye on.

This September they released their debut EP, That’s Hot X Proxy, which is described as ‘a St. John’s love story told though the eyes of a fishbowl’. As someone who loves when bands incorporate their names into their songs, the title track is right up my alley. It can be hard to understand the vocals but you’ll find yourself singing along to the chorus in no time.

My personal favourite from the EP is the last track, Anita. Since my first listen through it has been the song that I find I can’t get out of my head.

While ‘That’s Hot X Proxy’ is a solid first try, as with many first EPs there is always room for improvement. Hot X Proxy are a band that thrives in a live setting but I don’t think that quite shows through in the recorded setting.

Rating: 3/5
