Guelph, ON based psych/rock band, The Folk is made up of four core members, Sara Bortolon-Vettor, Emma Bortolon-Vettor, Mark Ferrari and Liam Magahay. The band released a new album, “Every Colour, Present Wonder” on September 18th, which features eleven tracks.
The album starts with “Avery”, which is the single from the album. The track has a very intense, deep sound. The takes you on a soulful detour, and I have to say that I quite enjoyed it. “Fire In The Back Room” follows, and gives off a completely different vibe, with a heavier sound and completely psychedelic undertones that are nothing short of contagious.
My favourite on the album is the fifth song, “Our Lives Lie”. I thoroughly enjoyed the vocals on this song, and the high energy beat that accompanies them. I can see that a song like this would be killer performed live, and if you have a chance to see them at any of their upcoming shows (which are listed below), you should!
The Folk takes you on an unexpected journey with this album, taking detours through various genres, while remaining faithful to their phych/rock sound.
