You don’t need to scratch beneath the surface too far in The Brook’s second EP to find out that Sweet Talk is full of delightful and bright melodies, and contemporary and relatable sentiments.  The Ottawa based indie folk rock band will be releasing their sophomore EP on September 20, 2015.  The trio of Sarah Murphy (vocals), Zac Delamont (drums) and Robin Russell (bass) draw influence from the likes of Serena Ryder and Hey Rosetta! but also incorporate a distinctive east coast flavour thanks to songwriter Murphy’s Newfoundland upbringing.

Sweet Talk expands on their previous work, Start Swimming, with confidence and execution.  However there is a notable change in the sonic landscape, as the band transitions from an alternative rock to a more folk rock feel.  The music that results is pure magic – four memorable and haunting tracks.  Immediately upon pressing play, the listener is treated to a shining guitar melody with tight drum rhythms.  Murphy’s voice is raw with hints of rasp and is altogether welcoming in the track Filthy.  Honest and alluring lyrics are the pinnacle of this avant-garde approach to their song writing.  The subject matter of the title track dives right into the suggestive nature of the online dating scene and addresses the complexities of modern relationships.  This album is undoubtedly one to incorporate into your music playlists!
