Interview – Reanimator

By: Adam Van Thiel

Montreal heavyweight thrashers, Reanimator have launched a new assault on the fans, with a new album called ‘Horns Up’. I got a chance to catch up with the band and ask them a few questions about this thrash metal opus. Here is what the guys had to say:

Can you give me a little background on the band?

The band was formed in 2005 by Patrick Martin (Actual Lead Singer) and Maxime Cormier(Ex-Bass Player) with Julien Couture(Guitar), Etienne Boucher(Guitar) and Alex Gascon(Drums). Since the formation of the band, the line up has change a couple of times and Patrick is still leading Reanimator with Frank Labelle on drums, Fred Bizier on Bass  Joel Racine and Ludovic Bastien on Guitars.

Who are the members?

The actual Members are : Patrick Martin (Lead Singer), Fred Bizier (Bass), Frank Labelle (Drums), Joel Racine (Guitars) and Ludovic Bastien (Guitars)

Have there been any changes in your line-up?

A lot of changes! Since the creation of the band in 2005 we had 15 different members in the band! Let’s hope that this current line-up won’t change (I love those guys)

How long have you been a band?

It’s been 10 years now.

Where did the name REANIMATOR come from?

Back in 2005 when we started the band we wanted to bring back Thrash Metal to life, so we decided to use Reanimator.

What about thrash metal really excites you?

The fuckin’ headbangers riffs!

Does your music have a certain theme, or is it different from album to album?

There is no particular theme in our music, let’s say it’s different from song to song.

Who does the writing, and where does the inspiration for your writing come from?

Everybody writes in the band, I (Patrick) write the lyrics and the other guys write the music. Simple.

What are some of your influences?

Exodus, Annihilator, Voivod, Megadeth, Pantera, Anthrax

Can you tell me about the recording process, was anything different this time around?

We recorded the album at the Badass Studio here in Quebec, with our good friend Jef Fortin, a well known producer here in Quebec. The sessions went well, and all the songs we’re already pre-produced by ourselves into our home studio.

Any funny stories you can share about being the studio?

Mmmm, I can’t remember anything in particular, but it was fun!

Are you going to be touring soon?

Yeah, we’ll be touring Quebec this Fall to promote the new album!

Any ambitions to play on the west coast?

Yeah! We can’t wait to get to the west coast!

What is your opinion on the metal in Canada right now?

We have a great metal scene in Canada, I hear people from around the world loving Canadian bands!

Any last words?
