British Columbia indie prog-rockers HAWKING have first hand experience of a band who have been through a lot together. Previous EP releases, a name change and a recovery after a serious car accident have all lead to their latest self-titled EP, set for release on July 14, 2015.
Composed of vocalists and guitarists Tom Vanderkam and Benji Klassen, bassist and vocalist Chris Young and drummer and vocalist Chartwell Kerr, the group’s sound has been described as Math Pop/Rock and Indie Core. The EP definitely takes me back to high school when Protest the Hero, the Fall of Troy and Alexisonfire thrived.
The lead track and single “Safe and Sound” has catchy guitar riffs and powerful vocals, setting the sound for the rest of the EP. My personal favourite is the final track, “Systole”, which really acts to round out and complete the overall sound. This EP is definitely a representation of that which doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger.
HAWKING is hitting the road on their first North American tour to promote their upcoming EP. Check out HAWKING’s website to keep up with all things HAWKING and to find full details of their tour schedule this summer.
My name is Katt and I am a born and raised Torontonian who loves everything about music. I am a rock n’ roll fanatic, with a particular passion for psychedelic and anything fem-powered. I am currently finishing up my postgraduate certificate in public relations at Humber College and hope to continue to work in the music industry- helping budding musicians make their dreams come true. I love a cold beer on a hot patio, all-dressed chips and cats. I also love road trips and secretly wish I were a trucker.
