Edmonton “prog rock” band, Revenge of the Trees, just released their EP called “Into the Night”. The songs on this album were written by lead singer, Mikey Muscat and arranged by the rest of the band; Brayden Treble, Kurtis Cockerill, and Nich Davies.
When I first heard of prog rock, I thought it was going to be like a softer, rockier version of progressive metal. This album completely threw my expectations out the window, in a good way.
It is light rock with a hint of indie. It would fit both genres’ lovers’ playlists very well.
“Can You Feel That” has that smooth, scat-like, sound to it with a kick. The punchy vocals mix well withthe music behind them. You can tell there is a blue’s influence, but keeps its roots in the rock sound. It is probably my favourite on the EP.
If you’re looking for an old familiar feel, or hoping for something new, this album is for you. This album will attract listeners from many genres.
I’m an aspiring entertainment journalist from Fredericton, New Brunswick, and a 2017 graduate from St. Thomas University with majors in Journalism and Psychology.
Aside from psychology, my passion has always been for music and storytelling. It is my dream to be in the industry, and music journalism seems to be the perfect fit. Along with a bit of photography dabbling, I think I’m pretty well on on my way.
When I’m not working, I’m listening to music, finding new artists to love, playing Dungeons and Dragons, or playing with my cats.
