I recently discovered a four piece alternative rock band from Niagara. I’ve never been the kind of person to listen to alternative rock, but I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to this. Heavy Hearts is set to release their new 4 song EP Somewhere A While Ago on February 3rd. Like the saying goes “less is more”, and that couldn’t be more true in this case.
The EP starts with Garden Arm, a very upbeat, song with a fast tempo and a catchy tune; a great way to start an EP. Automatically I was drawn into the music and I wanted to sing and dance all over my house! The second song Bambi Legs had a much slower pace than Garden Arm, which made my wonder if this song had a special meaning behind it. Underwater Shakespeare had me very curious before I had even listened to it. What does the name mean? Upon listening to it, I really enjoyed the tune. The tempo had picked back up again as well. The final song on the EP is called Wash; A bit of a slower song; a nice way to end the EP. To me, it sounds like they are trying to convey a message in this song, much like Bambi Legs. I thoroughly enjoyed the instrumentals throughout the EP, as well as the vocals of the singer. Heavy Hearts definitely gained a new fan. If you enjoy Alternative Rock, or are looking for new music to listen to, I highly recommend taking a listen to Heavy Hearts.
