Vancouver based psych-rockers Spoon River released their sophomore album, “The New Sun Ahhhh Hotel” on November 18, 2014 through Tonic Records. They also released a video for the track, “In The Parking Lot of The Swamp Museum”, which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejtt3J9zZnY&feature=youtu.be

Spoon River offers a very unique sound, but also very appealing. From the first song, “All The Dark Rains” all the way through the album, I was entranced. Sometimes the bands that break the cookie cutter sound are the bands that impress me most.

My favourite songs on the album are “Like A Dove” and “Swallow” which are both very upbeat songs that have you wanted to dance around the room. If you’re looking for a slower song, they have that too. I would recommend “The City Ain’t My Friend”. It’s one of those songs that really showcase the vocals, and you could easily sing along, as the sound is very clear.

If you’re in the market for something that sounds different, but that is also very captivating, then I would recommend Spoon River.
