This week’s Tuned In Tuesday is brought to you by another talented band from Prince Edward Island. Ten Strings and a Goat Skin is a bilingual trio from Rustic and Suffolk, Prince Edward Island. They mix together traditional Maritime and Irish music to create a sound that is sure to have your feet tapping along. They received the award for the Roots-Traditional Album of the Year at the 2012 Music PEI awards, as well as being nominated for the ECMA Roots Traditional Group Recording of the Year, and Music PEI’s 2013 SpinCount Touring Artists of the Year.
Members Jesse Périard, Caleb Gallant, and Rowen Gallant released their latest album ‘Corbeau’ on June 1st, 2013. This album has a mix of instrumental, English, and French songs, and even includes a collaboration with Island favourite, Lennie Gallant. They released a video for their song “Huginn And Muninn”, which is just them performing the instrumental song on a snowy beach in Cymbria, Prince Edward Island. And although the video was released in May, I promise you that our province is not that snow covered in May…most of the time.
If you haven’t heard of this band and you like Maritime music, you should definitely check them out. They are also performing at the Slaight Rising Star Showcase at the ECMAs in Charlottetown, on April 3rd, 2014. Tickets and other information about the week long celebration of east coast music can be found at http://www.ecma.com/.

I’m a Toronto girl born and raised but have been living in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick since 2010. Music and writing are my two passions, so what better place for me to be than a writer with Canadian Beats? I have been writing for the blog since May of 2013 and have had so many great experiences because of it. I listen to almost every kind of music but my favourites are pop rock, rock, indie, folk, and any other combinations of them. Concerts are definitely my favourite place to be, especially when you’re right against the barricade and can feel the energy from the band and the crowd, everyone singing the same lyrics and moving to the music. I also have a college degree in Business Administration and hope to one day be able to publish a novel.
