Alberta band Revenge of the Trees combines many different aspects into their music. The band includes Mikey Muscat (vocals, guitar, and keyboard), Matt King (lead guitar), Kurtis Cockerill (bass), and Nich Davies (drums). The four song self-titled EP is definitely a different sound to what I usually listen to on a daily basis, but it is still worth checking out.

“Fortress Hotel”, the first song on the EP, is probably my favourite of the four. Although not as polished as other bands, the sound adds a rawness to the music, enhancing it. “If You’re A Man” has a quicker pace than the first song, but the ending instrumental section is a bit too jazzy for my taste. “Revenge of the Trees” has a slower start to it but has impressive electric guitar solos near the end, a complete opposite to the beginning of the song. The final song, “Bones Of Clay” has quite a few changes in the instrumental parts, including more jazz and horns.

All in all, this EP is worth listening to. The mix of genres makes it unique from other current bands.

Rating: 3/5
