Mike Butler is a country artist from Toronto and released his self-titled EP in May of 2013. He worked with many people in the industry to make this EP come together including Juno nominee Douglas Romanow (Chantal Kreviazuk), Mark Ineo (The Tenors), and Kevin Fox (Sarah McLaughlin). This six song release has a fun, upbeat country sound.
On the album there are those “typical” country songs about the singers truck (or in this case a Honda) like “A Set Of Keys”, and about loving going to the local bar and having a few beers, like “Seven Beers Deep”. However, Butler writes humorous lyrics like in the song “My First Time”, which is about what you imagine it’s about.
Overall I like the EP and look forward to what Butler does next. The vocals are smooth and the instrumental parts of the songs are easy to listen to and enjoy. The upbeat rhythm will improve your mood should you feel down, and is easy to dance to should you also want to enjoy a few beers.

I’m a Toronto girl born and raised but have been living in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick since 2010. Music and writing are my two passions, so what better place for me to be than a writer with Canadian Beats? I have been writing for the blog since May of 2013 and have had so many great experiences because of it. I listen to almost every kind of music but my favourites are pop rock, rock, indie, folk, and any other combinations of them. Concerts are definitely my favourite place to be, especially when you’re right against the barricade and can feel the energy from the band and the crowd, everyone singing the same lyrics and moving to the music. I also have a college degree in Business Administration and hope to one day be able to publish a novel.
