Our Year In Review

Our Year In Review

Instead of a Friday Playlist this week, we decided to each tell you a bit about our favourite music moments from 2013. Keep reading to find out more!

Amanda’s Year In Review:

“2013 has been an amazing year for Canadian music. Amazing albums, such as ‘Wild Life’ by Hedley and ‘Carried Away’ by Jessica Lee were released. And for once many amazing bands came to Prince Edward Island, or close enough to it for me to go. In this past year I’ve seen Anami Vice, Down With Webster, Marianas Trench, RocketRocketShip, Courage My Love, Faber Drive, Hedley, and Lights live. There were also great music videos that were released, such as “Anything” by Hedley and “By Now” by Marianas Trench. And on top of everything, thanks to Canadian Beats, I was able to interview many of my favourite bands/artists throughout the year, including Krikit Liddle of Faber Drive, Kevvy Mental of Fake Shark Real Zombie, and Cam Hunter of Down With Webster. If 2014 is anything like 2013, we are sure in for a treat of amazing music from our favourite Canadians, and hopefully a few tours and interviews along the way. ”

Emily’s Year In Review:

“My first concert of 2013 was Face The Music:With A Vengence. I went to a lot of local shows in 2013 including Quake, Kayo, Neon Dreams and more. I was lucky enough to attend Big Red Fest with Faber Drive, Courage My Love and Hedley as well as We Day Atlantic. My favorite albums/EPs of the year would have to be Get Your Heart On:The Second Coming by Simple Plan, Corrado by Quake, Wildlife by Hedley and S.L.A.V.E. By Kayo. I’d have to say Chills by Down With Webster, Skin & Bones by Courage My Love and Halifornia by Neon Dreams. 2013 was a really good year for music, can’t wait to see what 2014 brings. ”

Yanna’s Year In Review:

“In 2013, some of my favourite bands and artists were Marianas Trench, Hedley, Fighting For Ithaca, Halfway To Hollywood, Lights and Arcade Fire. A couple albums I listened to often that came out this year were Wild Life by Hedley, Reflektor by Arcade Fire and The Hurry and the Harm by City and Colour. This past year was filled with concerts especially small local shows featuring bands like This Side Of Town, Chase Your Words, The Faceplants, GreenTree and many more. Although I went to a lot of shows, my favourite performance from 2013 was when Halfway To Hollywood did a private acoustic performance at my house! The past year introduced me to my cities local music scene and I’m hoping to be a lot more involved in it in 2014.”

Tara’s Year In Review:

“2013 was a solid year in music for me. I saw Arkells, The Motorleague, Tegan and Sara, Lights, Marianas Trench, Karl Wolf, Tyler Shaw, RocketRocketShip (too many times to count) and lots of local bands as well. My favorite album this year was easily Acknowledge Acknowledge by The Motorleague. The bands I listened to most this year were RocketRocketShip, Make Mean Everything and Tegan and Sara. My favorite moment this year was meeting Lights while she was in town for the Tegan and Sara show.”

Jordyn’s Year In Review:

“In 2013 Fake Shark Real Zombie, Marianas Trench, ByStarlight, Halfway to Hollywood, Fighting for Ithaca, Hedley and Faber Drive were my favourites. I loved Wild Life by Hedley and Liar by Fake Shark. I went to FTM:WAV and it was great.”

Jenna’s Year In Review:

“2013 was a great year for me, considering I started Canadian Beats and got the chance to work with many talented Canadian bands and artists. I was supposed to see Andy Brown live, but the show was cancelled. Other than that, I didn’t see any shows this year. Some of the bands that I heard this year and fell in love with are The Faceplants and Street Pharmacy, on top of the bands I have been following for years such as Hedley, Faber Drive and Andy Brown. If I had to choose one album from 2013 that was my favourite, I would have to say “Tin Man” by Andy Brown, it has been in my car stereo for months now, and I just can’t get enough. I had tonnes of fun interviewing many great Canadian bands during email interviews, some of my favourites being Rock Johnson, Ryan Cook, Andy Brown and Street Pharmacy. I’m looking forward to 2014 to be just as awesome and hopefully I’ll get to attend a few shows!”

Jeannette’s Year In Review:

“My favorite music moment of 2013 is having the chance to attend Face The Music : With A Vengeance in Fredericton, with Marianas Trench, Down with Webster and Anami Vice / Kevvy Mental . Not only I had the chance to see those artists live, but I also had the chance to meet my favorite band of all time, Marianas Trench. It was an amazing show and I would do ANYTHING to go back. If you ever have the chance to see Marianas Trench, Down with webster or Anami Vice in concert, you have to go !”

We hope you all had a great 2013 as well, and we wish you an amazing 2014!! 🙂
