When did you decide that you wanted to pursue music as a career?
JS: Always loved music as a kid but when I was 14 I attended my first concert ever. It was a Hilary Duff concert. When I saw how fun she was having on stage, performing in this huge stadium, in front of thousands, I wanted to experience that as well. That’s when I made my I made up my mind to pursue a career. The idea of moving people with music was intriguing to me.
You were chosen as Edmonton’s “Hot Factor” artist, how did that feel?
JS: I never really win anything, so it was very exciting. It gave me an extra push and motivated me to keep continuing my musical journey
You have said you will be releasing your EP in Spring 2014, what can you tell us about it?
JS: People have only heard “Whatcha Gonna Do”, which is very pop tune and might expect the rest of my EP to have that same sound. The EP is an introductory to me as an artist, so there is going to be a few different sounds that will be covered in the compilation. It will still be pop oriented, but definitely more authentic than my first single.
You have released your debut single, “Whatcha Gonna Do”, how was the response been so far?
JS: It’s been crazy! Toxsic and me are so impressed and proud with the response from our fans. We don’t make music for ourselves. We make it for our fans and listeners. Knowing that their as excited as us, tells us that we have done our job.
What was the best part of making the music video for your single?
JS: To be honest, there is not a specific part. It was my first ever music video, so the project as a whole was a new experience for me and I was taking in every bit of it. It was such a great time with such a talented cast and crew! The song is not that serious, mainly fun. That’s what we tried to achieve throughout the video. I can’t wait to make more!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your favorite Canadian bands / artists?
JS: That’s a hard question because every artist has their own style that I admire. One of my favorites is KD Lang. Her voice is so awesome! I love Avril Lavigne’s style and admire Nelly Furtado’s authenticity. I grew up listening to most of their music as a kid. They have been quite an influence to me as an artist. Oh yeah! Justin Bieber is very talented as well.
Who would you like to tour with in the future?
JS: Another tough one! I pretty much have a list: Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Jay- Z, One Direction (Their cute!), Linkin Park
What can your fans expect from you next?
JS: 2014 will be a very eventful year with the new EP coming out. There will also be many festivals in the spring/summer time, as well as more music videos!
Since it’s almost Christmas, I have to ask, would you consider releasing a Christmas song?
JS: I have a few written, and always wanted to release a holiday song. It’s my favorite holiday! Next year I will release one for sure.
Now I’d like to ask a few THIS OR THAT questions, so here goes:
Twitter or Facebook?
Coffee or Tea?
JS: coffee (addict)
Call or Text?
JS: Depends. Calls are more legitimate and gets things done faster. Texting is more convenient though.
Vanilla or Chocoalte?
JS: I LOVE CHOCOLATE.
Indoors or Outdoors?
JS: Both. Indoor definitely during the winter
Movies or Television?
JS: I am a movie person, but these days, there have been lot of amazing tv shows that I would rather watch then a movie. The Walking Dead is my favorite right now
And last but not least, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
JS: Thank you so much for all you support so far! I can’t wait to share new music and video with you.
