This week for Tuned In Tuesday, I want to introduce you to a band from Ontario that you may not know about. They are called Hollerado. Hollerado consists of Jake, Dean, Nixon, and Menno. Their latest video for their song “So It Goes” is definitely different than most music videos.
In the beginning, Menno describes what it was like for his grandfather, who the song is about, to live through WWII in Holland as a soldier of the resistance. Menno describes how a German soldier actually saved his grandfather’s life when he was supposed to be executed. It’s an emotional tale, but one worth listening to.
I first heard this song when it was played on MuchMusic. I was intrigued by the shortened video that was played and decided to look more into the band, delighted when I read they are a Canadian band. The song, even though it came from an unfortunate situation, is upbeat and catchy with a unique song. It details some of the events that happened in Holland during the war, such as the smuggling of weapons for the resistance against the German army.
I highly suggest you give this band a listen. You’ll like what you hear. If you want to learn more about them, check out their websites for tour information and upcoming releases:
I’m a Toronto girl born and raised but have been living in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick since 2010. Music and writing are my two passions, so what better place for me to be than a writer with Canadian Beats? I have been writing for the blog since May of 2013 and have had so many great experiences because of it. I listen to almost every kind of music but my favourites are pop rock, rock, indie, folk, and any other combinations of them. Concerts are definitely my favourite place to be, especially when you’re right against the barricade and can feel the energy from the band and the crowd, everyone singing the same lyrics and moving to the music. I also have a college degree in Business Administration and hope to one day be able to publish a novel.
