This is my first throwback, so I figured I would make it a special one!
On October 4, 2005 I finally heard the first single from Hedley’s self titled album, On My Own. I had been anxiously awaiting it for some time, as I had been a fan since the first time I heard Jacob Hoggard on Canadian Idol.
I woke up, had it all downloaded from iTunes and I remember I listened to it on repeat all day.
The single reached number one on the Canadian Singles Chart. The video for “On My Own” reached nubmer one on the MuchMusic countdown on the week of December 2, 2005.
The song, in my opinion, represents doing things on your own, and making your way in life, the way you intend to do, and on your own terms. Also pushing aside the negetive presence that may interfere with doing what you want to do.
Give it a listen, it’s a great song, but it also puts in perspective how much the band has grown over time, both as musicians and as people.
