Five Questions With Lavender Child

Toronto’s own dream pop artist, Lavender Child has collaborated with five Canadian filmmakers to create a brand new music video for each track on her EP, Reflections. The production for “Plutomania” was proudly run by an all-female crew, both behind and in front of the lens. Check out the video below and find out more about Lavender Child via our Five Questions With segment.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I’m Cait, Lavender Child! I’ve just put out my first project “Reflections” an ambient dream pop collection working with five local videographers in the GTA to create a visual album.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

The music is pretty dreamy and meditative, the same as how it’s created. I do all the writing alone with a vocal loop pedal, and I’ll usually spend hours just droning the loop and creating the main structure of a tune in a night.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

No official dates *yet* but an epic outdoor show is in the making for the summer time. There will definitely be a visual component to the live performance, but our main hope is to encourage and hold space for nature and community, even if it’s just for one night. 🙂

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

The last track “Reflections” is a slow burn of a song, but a good one if you feel like taking a cozy bath (and crying? – optional, of course.)

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Yes yes! Wow so many incredible artists, Braids & Feist will forever hold my heart in the Canadian music scene. The last couple of weeks I have been *treasuring* the tune “Show Me How” by Montreal band, Men I Trust. It honestly feels like if Metric’s voice and Mac DeMarco’s guitars made love… yum.
