Five Questions With Jason Bajada

Montreal’s own Jason Bajada is currently on tour in support of his latest release, Loveshit II (Blondie & The Backstabberz), and will be playing a show in Toronto on February 8 at The Burdock. We were happy to catch up with him in advance of the show for a segment of Five Questions With. So, take a few moments and find out more about him, and if you have the chance, stop by The Burdock or any of his upcoming shows.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello Canadian Beats. I’m Jason Bajada. I’m hypersensitive. My grandfather is from Malta and I have a newfound obsession with hot sauces.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I’ve been writing songs for most of my life. They are melody based piano & guitar tunes inspired by my silly feelings. I think they are quite catchy and worth your time. Defining music is kinda hard though. I believe it was Elvis Costello, or maybe Steve Martin who said “talking about music is like dancing about architecture”.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I’m actually playing the fine city of Toronto this Thursday (Burdock) February 8th. I’ll sing my little heart out, complain about how much psychological damage my ex-girlfriend inflicted on me, you’ll most likely applaud (out of enjoyment or politeness) and then you can explain to me what the hell just happened to all of us. I’ll also give you a free hug at the merch table because hugs are just like, you know, essential.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

“A Collision”

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Alvvays, Leonard Cohen, Philémon Cimon, Plants & Animals, Land of Talk
