Five Questions With Romancer

Kitchener ON-based four-piece ambient punk-rock band, Romancer took some time to chat with us for our newest segment of Five Questions With. The band recently released a video for their single, “Nausicaa”, which you can check out below.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Yo, it’s Nathan (drums) and Adam (guitar, vocals) from romancer answering here!

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

Romancer has always been a project where we are trying to be as creative as possible. We’ve always made fast, aggressive music, but lately, we’ve been finding ourselves writing more intimate ambient music. I think our ultimate goal is to seamlessly combine those two elements, though we always make a point to not set any boundaries on our writing- so who knows what our songs are going to sound like in the future?

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

We’re at the end of a tour with our super talented friends in Pfloog. Belmont is coming through Kitchener in January and we’re on that. It will likely be our last hometown for a while.

With our live show, we’ve been told it’s a completely different experience than listening to our record. There’s lots of energy coming from onstage and we always get to the point where we’re still in control, but just barely.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

“Nausicaa” is the second track on our new release ‘honeybee.’ I think that’s a good place to start because it contains everything that the band is about at the moment and condenses it into a two and a half minute song.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

We love a ton of Canadian music, both national and local. Some of our favourites are Alexisonfire, Barenaked Ladies, Chris LaRocca, badbadnotgood, Daniel Caesar and Nighttime in Kansas, to name a few.
