Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We are Winnie Brave, a husband and wife, Americana/Soul duo who tour/travel in our 1976 Winnebago with our two dogs.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

Our music is inspired by the road; by the places that we’ve visited throughout Canada and the United States. The Cheap Gin album has elements of Old Time/Gospel, Funk and Soul and some dusty desert rock songs inspired by the deep southwest. The songs are co-written by Amy and Brad. Usually, Brad puts down a bass groove to set the tone, then we fill it out from there.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

We’ve just wrapped up the first leg of our Ontario to BC tour. We’ll be playing a bunch of shows throughout Alberta/Saskatchewan from October to December, before heading south to tour the US for four months. All dates are listed on our website.

For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

We are an energetic two-piece striving for a bigger sound than the sum of its parts.
Amy plays guitar and provides soaring lead vocals. Brad handles bass and keys while keeping time on an old suitcase foot drum.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

New Mexico is hands-down our favourite track on the album. This song was a complete surprise as it unfolded before us. When Christine Bougie laid down the lap steel parts, it blew our minds.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Blue Rodeo, Bahamas, Neil Young, The Band (they’re mostly Canadian), NQ Arbuckle, Del Barber, Lynn Miles, Elsee – it’s an eclectic mix.
