Photo Review – Holy Roller Revue

What: Holy Roller Revue
Who: Run Coyote, Dylan Rysstad and the Country Miles, The Wayward Hearts, and Real Ponchos
When: Saturday, September 16th
Where: Fox Cabaret, Vancouver BC

I ventured down to the Fox Cabaret on Main Street last Saturday evening to check out a band called Run Coyote. They were part of a musical showcase called the Holy Roller Revue that takes place once a month and features 4 Canadian bands ranging in genres from roots, country, gospel, and rock.

First up was Dylan Rysstad and the Country Miles. The boys from Vancouver Island treated us to half an hour of Rockabilly goodness that got the crowd warmed up and ready for the rest of the night.

Next on stage was Run Coyote. With twangy guitars and a sound that gives a nod to the foundation rock and roll of yesteryear, this talented four pack of musicians from Toronto are halfway through a thirteen stop Canadian tour in support of their latest release Young Canadians. Frontman Sam Allen was fun to watch as he frequently turned to jam with his brother Jake on guitar as well as bass player Amanda Grant. Jeremy Ramos-Foley kept everybody in time sitting back on the drums. Run Coyote creates a feeling of tightness and kinship while they’re performing and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing and listening to them in person. Oh, and they’re all really friendly and fun to chat with!

Next on the bill were The Wayward Hearts who are the hosts of The Holy Roller Revue. Bradley Damsgaard fronts the band and is the man we have to thank for this monthly evening of musical talent and entertainment. With their alt-country stylings, the band of six got the place moving and the people dancing.

Real Ponchos closed out the evening with their psychedelic styled country soul music. They released their debut album To The Dusty World in February this year and have developed quite a following around their hometown of Vancouver. The Holy Roller Revue was a fantastic evening of music and great people, I can’t wait for the next one.
