Countdown to BreakOut West – Interview with VIKINGS

BreakOut West 2017 takes place in Edmonton, AB between September 13 – 17. The event encompasses the Western Canadian Music Awards, Industry Awards, Hall of Fame Induction, Industry Conference, Kick-off Concert and a city-wide Music Festival. It’s the place to be if you’re able! The Festival itself features over 60 of the best in Western Canadian bands and artists, and we are happy to chat with a few of them leading up to the event! First, we spoke with Manitoba based Kayla Luky, Vancouver’s The Matinée, Saskatchewan’s The Wolfe, Vernon BC’s //AMISTAD// and then Vancouver’s alt-pop band, The Tourist Company. Today, it’s time to chat with Winnipeg’s VIKINGS. Enjoy!

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are VIKINGS from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

You are taking part in this year’s BreakOut West, what does it feel like to be a part of this event?

It’s such a great event bringing all these diverse talents from around western Canada. It’s an awesome platform to showcase what we have to offer.

What other bands/ artists are you looking forward to checking out at BreakOut West?

I think it’s nice to be surprised. That’s what we’re looking forward to the most but it’s also always nice to see friends of ours playing all at one event.

Besides the performances, is there any other event that you’re looking forward to?

I think just taking it all in. The opportunity to be able to pick the brains of people from all walks of the music industry is invaluable.

I hear there is a Closing BBQ on September 17, so of course, I have to ask, what’s your go to food to BBQ?

Oh boy. Honestly lately Brussel sprouts with butter and onion… should I have picked meat? Haha.

Do you have any other upcoming shows that you’d like to tell us about?

After this, we head to the US to do a few showcases at the end of September. We’re also releasing a full length late this year so ramping up to get out your plans in order.

If someone has yet to see your perform live, how would you describe your live show?

We bring the party, the lights, and the movement. A relentless barrage of electronic pop gems… we think.

If you were only able to recommend ONE song for a new listener, which would you choose?

I think of what we have out now most likely “Burning Man” which came out early this year. However, the new record is stacked with songs we’re really loving.

Here at Canadian Beats, we’re all about Canadian music, who are some of your favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

The new Broken Social Scene is an amazing record. They kinda came out of the ashes with a powerhouse of a record.

What’s up next for you?

Getting ready to release our full-length Electric Life then back on the road to your doors!!!
