World Premiere Video release for “Earthquake” by Stevie Jewel

Ontario born Stevie Jewel could be called a country artist who mixes a bit of pop and southern rock in her music, and it works perfectly. Before turning 20 years old, Stevie was known as a multi-award winning artist and even nominated for a Grammy Award. Her background is filled with noteworthy points, such as studying at The Royal Conservatory in Canada, Las Vegas Academy for Performing Arts and also the Atlantic Music Academy. Stevie’s previous singles, “Off the Market” and “Bad Habit” did great and we are sure “Earthquake” will follow suit.

So take some time out of your Monday, and witness this “Earthquake”, and be sure to stay tuned for more news coming soon on a tour supporting the single, and the upcoming concept album which is due out this Fall.

On top of the incredible video release, we’re happy to share with you a new segment of Five Questions With featuring the lovely, and insanely talented Stevie Jewel. It’s your chance to find out more about this Ontario born, Nashville/ Ontario based artist.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers? (how did you end up in Nashville?)

I’m Stevie Jewel originally from Huntsville Ontario.  I have been singing and writing songs for as long as I can remember and I love sharing a good musical and lyrical story with listeners.  Having performed all over, from The Mint in Los Angeles to the White House in Washington DC, I love sharing music with people!  I ended up in Nashville because I wanted to become the best musician possible, and after spending four years and earning my degree from Belmont University in Nashville I think I’m well on my way to accomplishing that goal!

Tell us about the new single “Earthquake” and what inspired the song.

“Earthquake” was inspired by real events from my life.  I was in a situation that had me so frustrated but there was really nothing I could do about it at the time.  Until I remembered I’m a songwriter and that I can ALWAYS right about a situation.  This song reminds me of a quote I heard from Anne Lamott, “You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better.”

Explain the inspiration for the video that accompanies the new single “Earthquake”.

I wanted the video to be beautiful because even in a moment of anger of frustration you can find beauty, and that balance is what I wanted to capture in the video for Earthquake.  We wanted to shoot outside on a stormy day and thank goodness the weather cooperated with us!  Mike Peleshok was the videographer for this video and he really helped bring and enhance what I was seeing in my mind’s eye to life.

If you were asked to suggest only one song that a person should listen to that you feel is empowering or inspirational, which would it be?

Carrie Underwood’s song “So Small” is a great song to listen to when you need to be reminded of what is really important.  It’s empowering to remember that the most important things in life are the small things.  She sings about love, but it’s not romantic love, it’s every kind of love!

Now more than ever Canadian country artists are finding some success at radio.  Why do you feel it is important for radio and media to give independent artists a chance on air?

I think it’s important because music isn’t about fame, it’s about writing and creating music that moves people and that means something.  Independent artists sometimes have a more authentic grasp of what that means and in addition to that, every artist started out on their own, independent, so any independent artist could be the next Dolly Parton or Shania Twain if given the opportunity!
