Countdown to Larlee Creek Hullabaloo – Interview with Erin Costelo

Larlee Creek Hullabaloo is known as the “little festival that could”, and it’s not hard to see why when you see the immense talent that it offers. Larlee Creek Hullabaloo takes place in Perth-Andover, NB and brings out the best of the best when it comes to East Coast talent! We are excited to team up with the festival to present you with a series of interviews that we conducted with some of the performers. To start things off, we chatted with Halifax based Christine Campbell, then Toronto based Samantha Martin of Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, Halifax based, Hillsburn and The Kendra Gale Band! The festival is this weekend, and we are still counting down with our interviews! Today we chat with Halifax based artist, Erin Costelo! Enjoy!

First off, care to introduce yourself to the Canadian Beats readers?

My name is Erin Costelo, I am a songwriter/producer from Halifax

Larlee Creek Hullabaloo may be a “little” festival, but it’s jam packed with talent, what does it feel like to be involved in this particular festival?

This will be my second Hullabaloo, maybe my third? No second? Anyway…I LOVE it!  The crowd is amazing, the music is fantastic and the volunteers are the BEST.  It is a special festival J

Are there any specific artists/bands that you’re excited to see at Larlee Creek Hullabaloo?

I am excited to see some amazing kick ass women at the festival.  Ria, Samantha Martin, Christine Campbell, Kendra Gale!  It will be so much fun to hang out and play some tunes together.

Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?

I have one more festival this summer.  I am playing Bear Creek Folk festival in Grand Prairie, AB then I head to Newfoundland for some shows.

If someone has yet to see you live, how would you describe your live show?

Like hanging out with a bud who happens to play songs?

If you were only able to recommend ONE song for a new listener, which would you choose?

I have really been into playing a song called “Fighter” lately.  So I guess I would suggest that one?

Here at Canadian Beats, we’re all about Canadian talent, who are some of your favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Amelia Curran, Catherine McLellan, Feist, Joel Plaskett, Yellow Jacket Avenger, Alejandra Ribera

What’s up next for you?

We finish out the summer the head to Nashville for Americana Fest in Sept and the tour in Ontario in October…then start working on demos for a new record in November!
