Up close and ONtour with Ralph

Ontario is celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary in style.  All year long, the province is marking 150 years with events across the province.  ONtour is a free and all ages concert series that is stopping at more than 20 communities across Ontario featuring some pretty amazing Ontario musicians.  We have the pleasure of introducing you to some of this homegrown talent with interviews leading up to their performances.

On Saturday, July 29, Toronto pop Queen, Ralph will be performing alongside The Jim Cuddy Band, JoSH the Band and Karl Wolf in Ajax for that leg of the tour.  Ralph is a ball of energy on stage and recently released her self-titled debut EP with 604 Records.  For more information on this upcoming show, check out the Facebook event.  This is one show not to be missed!

What part of Ontario are you from and/or currently reside in?

Born and raised in downtown Toronto

You have been selected to be a performer in the ONTour Concert Series, an event to help celebrate Ontario’s 150th Anniversary.  How does it feel to be part of this event?

I’m honoured to be performing alongside celebrated Canadian bands such as Jim Cuddy, who my parents have listened to since I was a kid. Canada has so much talent and I’m thrilled to be acknowledged amongst these talents.

Ontario’s motto for many years has been, “Yours to discover”.  What is your favourite place to explore?

My dad’s family has a big old farmhouse up north in Beaver Valley. It’s beautiful all year round and the area is one of my favorite places in the world.

Touring as a musician has likely brought you to many unique locations to dine in.  In your opinion, what is Ontario’s best kept secret to eat at

There’s an epic chip truck near Pointe-Au-Baril in Georgian Bay that has the best French fries. Maha’s Egyptian brunch in Toronto is insane.

What is your favourite Ontario music festival or venue?

I love Field Trip, because it’s filled with so many Toronto music peers and I can bike down and stay for as long as I want, then go home. Camping festivals are amazing but there’s a simplicity to Field Trip that I love.

There are so many talented artists who are taking part in this special tour.  Who are you excited to check out?

I’m a big fan of July Talk and my girls, the Beaches.

Are you performing at any other music festivals this summer that you would like to tell us about?

I’m super excited to be heading out west to BC in early September for iheart Radio Beach Ball Fest, Westward Fest, and Rifflandia.

What does the rest of 2017 look like for you?

Lots of writing for my album, collaborating with new producers and artists, new music videos and singles, and some really fun tour plans (in Ontario and outside the province too!)

Why are you proud to be an Ontarian?

Because we have the most beautiful autumn (get up north and watch the leaves change) and the best summers (no one else cottages like Ontarians).

Want to find out if ONtour will be making it to your town this summer?  Be sure to check out their socials for the most up-to-date information.  New artists are continually being added to shows, so check often!

I’m Nicole, a biology teacher by day, but my life revolves around music. I’m that girl that you will always find with the concert t-shirt on and ear buds in. It is rare that you find me without some type of music playing in the background. I connect all of my life experiences to music. It truly has its own language in my heart. There is nothing more exciting than taking in all that a concert has to offer. I love to support local Canadian acts and attend as many shows that I can.
