Who: Ian Campbell Band
Where: Stylus Records, Vancouver
When: July 14, 2017
Genre: Alt Blues, Rock

Last Friday night, The Ian Campbell Band had an intimate release party for their new EP, Summer Time Come. I arrived at Stylus Records just off of Main Street and was greeted at the door by Ian himself who recognized me and welcomed me to the show. Ian is a really nice guy and it shines through in his music. Walking into the record shop was like taking a little step back in time, it’s a tiny little place crammed to the gills with collectible vintage records and the upstairs houses a whole bunch of handmade recreated antique furniture which is the owner of the record shops other hobby. Starting off the evening was a mellow sit down acoustic guitar session with the promoter James’s sister Maria.

Next up was a fast paced rocking set by Pastel Blank which got the crowd moving. Then it was Ian’s turn. Ian and the band play a unique homegrown bluesy style that is a pleasure to listen to. They played some songs off the new EP, including the title track which got a stellar response from the crowd and had them asking for more. Ian and his band mates are all excellent musicians and they groove together so well, it was definitely a treat to see them perform in such a small venue. Take a listen to the new EP if you have a chance, it’s great!
