Countdown to Mud City Meltdown – Interview with Les Hay Babies

From July 25 to July 30, Mud City Meltdown takes place in Moncton, NB. The festival showcases some incredible local talent, as well as some national and international acts that are certain to please the crowds. We are happy to be working alongside MCMD to showcase some of the talented bands and artists that will be performing! First up, we had Moncton based The Galpines and now we’re on to indie folk group, Les Hay Babies.

First off, care to introduce yourself to the Canadian Beats readers?

Hi, this is Vivianne Roy from Les Hay Babies. We started out as a trio. Guitar, Banjo, Ukulele and Harmonies, but we’re now a six piece band. Three boys (Drums, Bass/Keyboard, Guitar) and we, the girls, play guitars, Kat is on bass too, Julie pays the 12-string and we play dinky rock with a wink to the 60’s French Greats, 70’s rock and roll. We have an EP (Folio – 2012), and two full-length albums (Mon Homesick Heart – 2014 + La 4ieme Dimension (version longue) – 2016). Mud City Meltdown is back for its third year, how does it feel to be a part of this event?
It feels like we’re gonna get dirty. Friends of ours are organizing it and it’s always fun to play home, so it’s definitely gonna be a good time.

The lineup for Mud City Meltdown is loaded with so much Canadian talent, who are you most excited to check out at the festival?

I think Daniel Lanois, The Monoxides, Iron Giant are gonna be fun. I’ve never seen any of them, yet heard so much about. Also, the Squirts are definitely gonna raise many roofs.

While you’re in Moncton, are there any “must see locations” that you hope to check out?

Spin-It’s Pinball section.

Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?

These are our Summer Dates: https://leshaybabies.bandcamp.com/

If someone has yet to see you live, how would you describe your live show?

Three girls, three guys. Two short girls (brunettes), one taller girl (blonde). The three guys are handsome and like ice cream. They all like to have fun and play frisbee together!

When you head out on tour or in this case for festival season, what 3 things must you make sure you pack?

Underwear, pants and the frisbee.

Here at Canadian Beats, we’re all about Canadian talent, who are some of your favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Laundry Detergent (Hamilton, Alberta), Chairs (Banff, Manitoba), Stovetop Frigidaire (Edmonton, Québec). They’re smaller bands, I’m not sure if you know, ‘em. hahaha

What’s up next for you?

Touring, writing songs, kicking tires, all that jazz!
