Five Questions With PoppySeed

Vancouver’s PoppySeed  has toured western Canada and also had his first European tour with New York rapper, Kool Keith. He is showing no signs of slowing down, but we are happy he took some time out of his schedule to chat with us for our newest segment of Five Questions With.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I really believe in the philosophy of healthy living and unity without division. I try hard to express that in my music. Art comes in many forms and I enjoy all forms of art. From my many tattoos, which is body art, to the art that I am starting to collect on my walls, even to the music I create.  It all somehow brings various people from all walks of life together and that is what I’m trying to achieve.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

Writing and recording really comes naturally to me. I enjoy going into the studio with a blank canvas, sometimes having nothing ready and just letting the natural flow of my producers, collaborators and myself coming up with something fresh.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I have never believed in just putting things out there or doing shows for the sake of doing them. Some call me a perfectionist, but that is what I like. I think if my fans are going to pay to see me, I want to be able to provide them with a really great experience. Lights, Sound, dancers and DJ’s.  A good show from start to finish,  my fans deserve quality. But yes PoppySeed Productions are putting together ideas for upcoming shows, tours and events in North America as well as aboard.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I think as an artist it is hard to come up with only 1 song, and since we’ve been working on Vibe Vendetta (promotion, production, bloggers, press, artwork, marketing) I would suggest Vibe Vendetta. It’s got that old school summer jam sound, a song that you can roll down your windows and turn up the bass, a fresh new sound that fills a void in the music industry.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favorite Canadian bands/ artists?

I just really want to give a big shout out to all Canadian artists all the various genres and from different walks of life.  Hats off to AnJulie, Warren Flandez and Serena Ryder I think they are all doing great things in the music scene right now.
