Steinbach’s ninth annual Summer in the City festival is celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday with an all-Canadian MainStage lineup!

Summer in the City is Steinbach, Manitoba’s premiere festival. This “celebration of arts and culture in the Southeast” is gearing up to be something fantastic this year. It’ll be held from June 16 to 18 with lots to do and see. Each day holds a different music theme. Friday is country music, Saturday is rock, Sunday is Christian music. As well as the headliners, Steinbach always supports local artists and this year in no different. Each concert has many of the local talent opening each concert. The full lineup will be released in early June but one Canadian artist performing on Friday evening (he happens to be a must-see at festivals and fairs this summer) is Jason Kirkness.

Friday, June 16 sees Jess Moskaluke as the headliner on the Steinbach Credit Union MainStage. Jess Moskaluke is the reigning queen of country music and calls Langenburg, Saskatchewan home. She is a 2017 JUNO Award winner, a platinum-selling artist (with her hit “Cheap Wine and Cigarettes”) and is the first female Canadian artist to crack the Top Five in Canadian country radio in nine years, hitting Number Three with her current single, “Drive Me Away.” As of December 31, 2016, Moskaluke had the Number One most-played song, “Take Me Home,” at Canadian country radio in 2016 and was the top spun Canadian female artist for the second year in a row.

Saturday, June 17, the rock night headliner is one of Canada’s most iconic and celebrated artists – Tom Cochrane and Red Rider. His music has spanned over 40 years with 17 albums released, including Mad Mad World 25, which was released in early 2017. Cochrane’s hit, “Life is a Highway” turns 25 this this year so the performance of this song will be the pinnacle of the night!

Cochrane says this of his songs, “I’m a proud Canadian and the biggest reward though is when someone comes up and says this song or that song got me through some tough times or was part of the best times in my life, or when I fell in love that was our song.”

Sunday, June 18 is Worship in the City and also Father’s Day. This is the perfect day for families to come out and enjoy themselves. Local Christian artists will be performing all day and the concerts are free. The MainStage concerts will wrap up with headliner Dan Bremnes. From Salmon Arms, BC, he is a Canadian Christian singer-songwriter who also happens to be a guitarist and drummer. Bremnes released Where the Light Is in 2015 and this album won the JUNO Award for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year in 2016. This album includes his first single, “Beautiful,” a song that holds a lot of meaning to Bremnes.
