Five Questions With The Damn Truth

Female fronted Montreal rock band, The Damn Truth are in the midst of their Spring/Summer tour with a few stops remaining, as well as some festivals including Festival d’été de Québec on July 14. We had the chance to have a little chat with them in the style of our Five Questions With segment! If you’re able to catch them on their upcoming tour dates, you should.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are The Damn Truth, loud, proud- in your face rock n roll band.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style..

Our new album: Devilish folk was written and conceived pretty much at the same time that Tom and I conceived our first born- Ben. That insane, life changing experience of bringing a new life into the world can and did inspire our writing quite a bit. The sheer weight of the responsibility started to settle in and we began questioning everything about ourselves and the world around us. Fearing for our unborn child – what this world has in store for him… so much so that in our first ultrasound we recorded his little heartbeat and you can hear it after the first verse of the title track. We had the incredible opportunity to work with our dear friend of impeccable hearing Jean Massicotte on the production of this record. He pushed and prodded us until we got that great take- all of us, live off the floor. Then we sent our recordings over seas to a far off land to be mixed and blessed by the magician, Tchad Blake himself.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

We are on tour cross Canada right now! Driving through northern Ontario at the moment, on our way to Vancouver with many stops across the way. Please check out our website or Facebook page for the full tour. Www.thedamntruth.com

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

That’s a hard one … because the music and records that inspire us the most are the kind of records that have wide range of sounds and feelings in them… we  try to do that on our records as well so it’s hard to pick, it really depends on your mood .. if you are into hard hitting,  in your face type rock and roll I would suggest you listen to Heart is Cold . But if you are in a mellow mood and feel more like listening to an acoustic storytelling type thing then icheck out Alex.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Sam Roberts and Half Moon Run
