Countdown to World Fiddle Day Toronto – Interview with DnA

World Fiddle Day Toronto takes place in two days, on Saturday May 20 but we felt it definitely deserved some exposure, so today and tomorrow we will post interviews with two of the musicians that will be performing at the event. Today, we had the chance to ask Toronto based DnA (Diana and Andrew Dawydchak) a few questions based around the upcoming event. Enjoy!

First off, care to introduce yourself to the Canadian Beats readers?

DnA is Diana (17) and Andrew (19) Dawydchak.  We are a sister and brother duo hence we truly share the same DnA and love for Celtic music. We incorporate fiddle, French button accordion, mandolin, drums, guitar and step dance into our performances with an innovative flair on traditions.

What is it like to be part of the 5th Annual World Fiddle Day in Toronto?

It is an honour to be a invited as a guest artist of the 5thAnnual World Fiddle Day in Toronto. We have been a part of the fiddle scene in Ontario for many years and we are especially excited to share our passion at this event.  Great friendships have come from music and we cant wait to meet everyone there!

Is this your first time at Toronto’s World Fiddle Day?

This is the first time for us at Toronto’s World Fiddle Day and we are excited to be part of the Canadian fiddling traditions in the workshops and evening concert.

Are you performing anywhere else this Summer that you’d like to tell us about?

We are excited to be playing at various events and you can check us out at our website: www.dna-sound.com

Describe your music using only 5 words.

Our music in five words or less is: A modern fiddle feel.

If you were asked to give an up & coming Canadian artist some advice, what would that advice be?

Find the sound and genre that speaks to you and make it your niche. Don’t be afraid to break from tradition because new music is broken traditions.

What are your current favourite Canadian musicians?

Natalie MacMaster, Donnell Leahy and De Temps Antan

What’s up next for you?

We recently recorded our first EP at Compass Records in Nashville Tennessee and are now working towards our first album.
